Titans coach Henry concerned about leaks

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry has expressed concern that the media appears better informed about the drugs scandal engulfing Queensland sport than the NRL club.

The Titans coach was unaware further players were about to be served with notices to appear on drug supply charges by Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission when he faced the media on Sunday.

Within minutes of that interview it was revealed Kalifa Faifai Loa and former player Joe Vickery were facing charges while State of Origin stars Greg Bird and David Taylor would also join them by the day’s end.

It means five players have been stood down by the club ahead of court appearances next month and Henry admits he’s often been the last to find out details.

“It’s disappointing that information has come to the press, sometimes before even the players have known,” he said.

“Is it a closed shop or is it a selective leak of information to certain media outlets? Certainly people were aware that something was going down before players were, before we were, before I was.

“To me that’s a concern and I suppose it would be a concern to the NRL as well.”

Despite some suggestions at least one more Titans player could face charges by the end of the week, Henry joined chief executive Graham Annesley in saying he believed Sunday’s revelations were the end of the matter for the club.

Henry added he was hopeful a show of support by die-hard fans at Gold Coast Airport on Sunday was indicative of the general feeling of Titans’ fans.

“They understand what we’re trying to do here and I think our CEO Graham Annesley has been honest and up-front about everything that this club has had to deal with,” he said.
