The father of Gold Coast NRL star David Mead has died, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Stephen Mead, 63, died in Brisbane overnight on Tuesday and a funeral will be held in the family’s native Papua New Guinea in coming days.
The Titans say they’re supporting Mead and his family and a decision will be made later in the week on whether the winger will line up against the Warriors in Saturday night’s clash at Skilled Park.
A moment’s silence will be held at the game as a mark of respect for Stephen Mead.
Titans’ coach John Cartwright said the thoughts of the club were with David Mead and his family.
“He’s had a really horrible last couple of weeks, he lost a cousin that was very close to him and now he’s lost his father so it’s been a really tough time,” said Cartwright.
“He knows that the club, and the boys in particular, are behind him.”
