Tim Glasby set for Qld Origin call up

Melbourne’s Tim Glasby is firming as the big bolter when Queensland name a new-look squad for next week’s must-win State of Origin game two in Sydney.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters is expected to ditch the loyalty card and axe five players for the clash at ANZ Stadium on June 21, with veteran forwards Nate Myles, Jacob Lillyman and Sam Thaiday plus winger Corey Oates and centre Justin O’Neill expected to go.

Gold Coast prop Jarrod Wallace was tipped to earn his Origin debut to beef up a pack without starting prop Myles, all but drawing the curtain on the 32-game veteran’s Maroons career.

But Wallace is at risk of being rubbed out of Origin II after being cited for a shoulder charge in the Titans’ last round loss to the Warriors.

It is believed Storm forward Glasby is the man Maroons selectors will turn to as back up for Wallace.

Titans hard man Wallace will cop a two-match ban for the hit on Warriors’ Blake Ayshford if he fights the charge and loses.

Walters is expected to hand North Queensland back-rower Coen Hess his Origin debut when he unveils his squad at 1pm on Monday.

The 20-year-old Hess has played just 22 NRL games.

Canberra second-rower Josh Papalii is expected to slot into the starting front-row for Myles alongside Dylan Napa with Cowboys’ Gavin Cooper recalled to the Maroons back-row at the age of 31.

Billy Slater is expected to return to fullback after his controversial game one snub, pushing Darius Boyd to the left wing at the expense of unlucky Broncos flyer Oates.

Cronulla’s Valentine Holmes is believed to have earned an Origin debut on the wing with Dane Gagai moving to the centres for dumped Cowboy O’Neill.

Thaiday and Lillyman are expected to be cut from the bench for Hess and Wallace.

The last time Queensland made five changes to their 17 was in game three, 2015.

Queensland lost the series opener 28-4 – a record Origin loss at Suncorp Stadium.
