Thousands greet victorious Cowboys

Thousands of ecstatic North Queensland fans have greeted the NRL premiers upon their arrival at Townsville airport on Monday.

The Cowboys, with their first rugby league title in tow, arrived in Townsville from Sydney on Monday afternoon to be greeted by a throng of supporters wearing the team’s colours.

A civic reception for Johnathan Thurston’s and Matt Scott’s victorious side is to be held at their home ground of 1300 Smiles Stadium this afternoon, when around 10,000 fans are expected.

The Cowboys claimed their first NRL premiership on Sunday with a dramatic 17-16 extra-time grand final win over Brisbane at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
