Super League’s Dobson ready for NRL return

Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock says his Super League halfback Michael Dobson should be headhunted by an NRL club.

Sandercock sang the praises of Dobson after he produced a man-of-the-match performance to inspire his side to a 44-26 victory over Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium.

The 26-year-old Australian scored two tries, had a hand in four others and kicked eight goals for a personal haul of 24 points as the Robins maintained their top-four challenge with a fourth consecutive Super League victory.

Dobson played 20 games for the Canberra Raiders between 2007 and 2008 but never quite found his feet in first grade.

He was overlooked for the Exiles (Australian and New Zealand Super League players) representative side, who are preparing to play England at Langtree Park on Saturday, but Sandercock has no doubt the player is good enough to be plying his trade in the NRL.

“I thought Michael Dobson was outstanding,” Sandercock said.

“He’s doing everything well.

“He should be playing in the NRL, he’s that good a player, and I’m lucky to have him.

“I think he’s the form halfback in the competition. The last month he’s taken his game to another level. To me, he’s in career-best form.”

Former Huddersfield winger David Hodgson also scored twice against his old club while skipper Ben Galea rolled back the years to his Wests Tigers days and shook off the effects of a chest infection with a polished performance.

“Our skipper was really good tonight,” Sandercock added. “He wasn’t feeling the best before the game so for him to come out and produce a game like that is credit to him.

“It’s a reason why he’s lasted so long in the game.”
