Sunday looms as D-day for Qld’s Thurston

Johnathan Thurston is expected to know whether he will recover from a shoulder injury and play in next week’s State of Origin opener by Sunday.

The Queensland playmaker believes if he can get through that day’s contact work at their Gold Coast camp he will back himself to play a 37th straight Origin game.

“If I can get through all my work, and am 100 per cent confident I can get through the game, I will play,” said Thurston, who has been named as 18th man with Brisbane’s Anthony Milford on standby at No.6.
