That’s right, $200 is the most that a punter has been willing to put on New South Wales to win State of Origin One, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au reporting the money running 7:1 in Queensland’s favour.
In contrast, Sportsbet has already seen a couple of $5,000 bets on the Maroons at $1.80.
As a result, Queensland have firmed from $1.80 into $1.77 and the Blues have gone out the back door from $2.00 to $2.05.
The difference in popularity is even greater when it comes to series betting. There’s 8 times the cash invested on Mal Meninga’s men, who are $1.58 to win back the title from NSW ($2.40).
“If the current trend of money for Queensland continues, we’ll be looking at one of the most one-sided Origin series in history from a betting perspective. You wouldn’t know Game One is in Sydney given the amount of support we’ve seen for the Maroons,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
