Preview:

South Sydney sit alone at the top of the NRL ladder after nine rounds with an 8 -1 record and have earned the position with good wins in the past month over the likes of Manly and Brisbane – at Brookvale and Suncorp respectively.

They returned home last week to account for the North Queensland Cowboys by 28-10.

Again, as was the case when the faced Manly and Brisbane, South were behind early but they are a professional outfit this year, well drilled and with a belief in their game, they again finished too well.

The Tigers season started off poorly, with a 42-10 loss against Newcastle and unfortunately, seems to be just getting worse.

Admittedly, they have been ravaged by injuries but in the last two weeks have conceded sixty points and scored fourteen.

Star playmaker Benji Marshall was rushed back from injury two weeks back when the injury toll rose but still doesn’t appear to be 100% comfortable on the field and this week, has been benched.

Souths have won the past three clashes between the two sides and would think they’ll easily take that tally to four this week.

Storm warning for Rabbitohs’ Asotasi

South Sydney’s Roy Asotasi says Melbourne’s recent stumbles have served as a warning to the Rabbitohs about the importance of having the right attitude each week.

The NRL leading Rabbitohs face last-placed Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

Souths went to the top of the league last weekend after they dispatched North Queensland while premiers Melbourne fell to battling Penrith.

It was the Storm’s second consecutive loss after going down to Canberra.

Asotasi says the Storm’s defeats highlight the need for teams to turn up with the right mindset, no matter who they were up against.

“We could drop a game this Friday night and the following week and then we’re back where we don’t want to be,” Asotasi said.

“But we understand Melbourne are still the benchmark side. It comes down to whether you want to turn up to play. It’s all about attitude.

“That’s something that we need to work on because we’ve struggled with our last couple of starts.

“Against the Cowboys even though we got the win … we walked away like we lost the game,” he said.

The New Zealand international insists the Tigers have plenty going for them and singled out prop Aaron Woods and fellow Kiwi Adam Blair as players to watch.

“Aaron Woods is playing some good football. He’ll be looking to stake his claims for Origin,” he said.

“Then you’ve also got Adam Blair. He’s copped a bit of a blasting through the week and he’s looking to prove a point.”

Woods, who is pushing for a place in Laurie Daley’s NSW team, says the Tigers must take it to the Rabbitohs.

“We’re going to have to be on our A-game and contain them nice and early and get up in their faces,” Woods told AAP.

“Once they go forward they’ve got Greg Inglis coming behind them. We know where they’re coming and we have to be ready for them.”

“Errors are hurting us and we are just giving teams a free ride up the field. We need to put an end to that.”

Tigers coach Mick Potter has dumped star Benji Marshall to the bench and will field a monster halves pairing of Curtis Sironen at halfback and Liam Fulton at five-eighth.
