Wayne Bennett’s return to South Sydney has been marred by serious pre-season injuries, and his clash with the Dolphins, the club he helped create, has been overshadowed by Cyclone Alfred, forcing the match to be relocated to Sydney.

For the Dolphins, this is a challenging debut season under coach Kristian Woolf. After narrowly missing the finals in their second year, the team looks set to improve as their young spine, including Isaiya Katoa and Hamiso Taubuai-Fidow, develops.

Junior Tupou takes the wing spot with Jack Bostock sidelined, while new recruits Daniel Saifiti and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki start in the pack. Max Plath joins the second-row and Gilbert returns at lock. Kenny Bromwich and Josh Kerr are unavailable for Round 1.
