When: 19:50 | Thursday 26/04/2018

Where: ANZ Stadium

Preview:

Souths losing their inspirational leader in Sam Burgess again for the second time this year will definitely hurt them.

Brisbane however, have a bigger concern losing Mr Reliable Andrew McCullough.

His work in the middle third defensively is excellent and a void that needs to be filled on average about 42 times.

Bring Josh McGuire into the acting half is a proven decent fix.

He played this position for Samoa and has gone really well.

The Broncos were great in patches last week but failed to capitalise on opportunities created.

This should be a great match between the two clubs and I’ve really enjoyed the growth in which Anthony Seibold has given his team.

KEY BATTLE: Greg Inglis v James Roberts

Looking forward to seeing Greg Inglis and the James ‘Jimmy the Jet’ Roberts go against each other.

One is built with size and power and the other is a ball of fast twitch fibres and plenty of speed.

The Verdict

Going with my heart in what will be a grinding affair.

NRL News:

Suspended South Sydney star Sam Burgess has vowed to change his ways in an attempt to stay on the paddock.

Days after his comeback from a two-week suspension for elbowing, Burgess was on Monday rubbed out for another fortnight for a high shot in the club’s win over Canberra.

“Sammy’s come out and said to us that he does have to fix a few technical things, and he knows that,” Rabbitohs skipper Greg Inglis said on Tuesday.

“But we love the way Sam plays.

“It’s just unfortunate that what’s happened last weekend, he’s got another two weeks on the sidelines. But he’s got to come back more determined to put his best foot forward for his team.”

His latest brush with the NRL match review committee lifts his career tally to 10 weeks on the sideline for a variety of charges, raising questions about his on-field aggression.

But a number of the Rabbitohs have urged Burgess not to let his multiple suspensions force him into altering his rugby league DNA, which has made him one of the most feared forwards in the competition.

“He ran for over 200 metres on the weekend and bust his gut in defence as well. We don’t want him to change, he’s just got to fix up a few little technical things,” Inglis said.

Sam’s brother Thomas labelled his older sibling a ‘rebel’, but found a silver lining from his latest ban.

“You feel like you’re letting the team down, but that’s all he’s disappointed about. You want to be out there every week. He’ll be alright. It’s a long season, so he’ll be back fresh like last time,” Thomas said.

“It’s a fast-paced game. It’s contact, fatigue comes into play, that’s why these things are in place when that happens. There’s penalties, but he’s copped this one and we just move on from it now.”

Cameron Murray, who has missed the past two matches with a hamstring injury, is likely to start in Burgess’ place in Thursday’s match against Brisbane after training strongly on Tuesday.

“(Sam’s) not happy at all about missing those two games but we’ve got Cam Murray who’s coming back in, who’s pretty much Sam Junior. He’s a mini Sam,” hooker Damien Cook said.

“He does a lot of the hard work and so we’re going to do the job against Brisbane this weekend.”
