In his 114-game NRL career, Brisbane forward Korbin Sims has never played finals football.
But Sims believes he will make up for lost time by winning the 2018 premiership with the Broncos before joining brother Tariq at St George Illawarra next year.
The Fijian international said there were no hard feelings after being “forced out” by the Broncos.
Sims, 26, signed a three-year Dragons deal from 2019 after there was no Broncos salary cap room left following the retention of young forwards Payne Haas, Jaydn Su’A, Matt Lodge, David Fifita and Joe Ofahengaue.
Boom Broncos forward Tevita Pangai is also expected to re-sign in November.
Sims bore no grudges, saying he was primed to break his finals duck and leave the Broncos with a premiership ring.
Sims looked set to finally taste finals football last year but he broke his arm, sidelining him from Brisbane’s march to the 2017 preliminary final.
“In 100 or so games I still haven’t played a game of finals yet so I am still champing at the bit to get in there,” Sims said ahead of Brisbane’s NRL clash with Canterbury on Thursday.
“Circumstances last year with me breaking my arm wasn’t ideal for the team or myself but this year I think we have the right crop of guys to go all the way, absolutely.”
Sims is in his second season at Brisbane after making his NRL debut at Newcastle (2013-16).
“The Broncos made it very clear that they wanted to keep me here to build on what we’ve been working on as a club,” Sims said.
“Unfortunately the business side of things takes over … but there are no grudges.”
Sims may be committed to a final hurrah with Brisbane but he allowed himself to daydream about a family reunion at the Dragons next year.
The Sims brothers will be teammates again after playing alongside each other at the Knights.
“He (Tariq) is pretty happy and I am pretty happy as well about going back there and playing with him – it is always fun playing with your brother,” Sims said of his Dragons move.
“With my brother being down there and what he has told me about the club, I am pretty sure I will fit in.”
