Sick Pearce sent home by Sydney Roosters

Sydney Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce has been laid low by a mystery illness, with the NRL club placing him in quarantine six days out from the grand final.

Pearce was scheduled to talk at Monday’s media opportunity, only to be sent home by the Roosters’ medical staff with flu-like symptoms.

However, teammate Aidan Guerra was quick to dismiss the suggestion Pearce was in any doubt of missing Sunday’s premiership decider against Manly.

“Pearcey is all good. There’s no problems there,” Guerra said.

“It’s just a precautionary thing. He’ll be right.”

The NSW State Of Origin No.7 has been a key factor in the Roosters claiming the minor premiership and moving to within one win of a 13th title.

“He’s probably been their best player all year,” Manly fullback Brett Stewart said on Monday.

It is the second week in a row illness has disrupted the Roosters’ camp.

Superstar Sonny Bill Williams failed to train last Friday and was in doubt for the side’s preliminary final against Newcastle on Saturday night.
