Sezer, James set for scans as Titans reel

The good news for Gold Coast is that skipper Nate Myles will be fit to make his 200th NRL appearance against the Sydney Roosters in Gosford on Sunday.

The bad news is that the Titans have enough players on their injury list to fill an entire team after more key players were hurt at the weekend.

Five eighth Aidan Sezer (hamstring) and stand-in captain Ryan James (shoulder/bicep) were both sent for scans on Monday to determine the extent of their injuries from Saturday’s disappointing loss to the Warriors.

Both have been among Gold Coast’s best players in recent weeks but they are likely to be sidelined for an extended period.

Titans prop Mark Ioane admitted the team would suffer for the absence of two players he said “defined” the team.

“The guys we have out, it’s a big loss for us,” he said.

“But the depth that we have the squad should make up for that.

“Anyone that’s in that team will try and make the best out of… we’ve just got to make the most of it.

“We know that if we put in the effort we can get amongst the big teams in the comp and if we play to the best of our abilities, we can do well.”

Forward Eddy Pettybourne was looking forward to Myles rejoining the Titans pack.

“Having the captain back is going to help us around the field,” Pettybourne said.

“He brings his experience and he’s a tough player as well.”

Gold Coast’s other casualties from the weekend – David Mead (jaw) and Josh Hoffman (shoulder) – have been cleared to play the Roosters.

Mead’s diagnosis means he will likely stay at fullback for the forseeable future while the Titans could simply not afford to lose Hoffman, who is one of their few genuine halves still standing.

With halfback Kane Elgey (ankle) and hookers Beau Falloon (wrist), Kierran Moseley (knee) and Matt Srama (ankle) all missing, coach Neil Henry faces a nightmare in trying to fill his key playmaking roles when he names his team on Tuesday.

There are also reports that injured fullback Will Zillman could be set to miss the rest of the season, as he requires surgery to repair a nagging back issue that has kept him out of the last few weeks.
