Roosters NRL boss Lee set to leave club

Sydney Roosters chief executive John Lee will leave the NRL club, a little more than a year after he switched from bitter rivals South Sydney.

The Roosters announced on Wednesday Lee will depart the club at the end of the month despite a strong start to the NRL season.

Lee said he was disappointed to be leaving the club at such a positive time.

“2017 promises to be a good year, with success already on and off the field,” Lee said in a statement.

Lee, who in March last year became the Roosters’ first chief executive since 2012, presided over the signing of five-eighth Luke Keary who switched from the Rabbitohs in the off-season.

The Roosters’ board thanked Lee for his service in a statement, saying they wished him success in the future and will begin the search for his replacement in the coming weeks.
