Sydney Roosters-bound coach Trent Robinson is determined to finish his stint in the English Super League with a premiership, as Catalans cemented fourth place on the ladder with a comprehensive 50-26 defeat of Bradford.
Robinson, set for his debut in the NRL next season, thanked his players for their efforts after they beat Bradford 50-26.
Scott Dureau, the former Newcastle Knights halfback, was inspirational with a try and seven goals, while ex-St George Illawarra fullback Clint Greenshields bagged a hat-trick.
It was Greenshields in particular that Robinson singled out for praise.
“Clint was unbelievable,” he said.
“We weren’t going to lose that game with him on the field.
“Obviously things have happened over the last 48 hours that can rock a team, and Clint led the way out there for us.
“He was turning up, saving and scoring tries and that shows the true character of him.”
Warrington coach Tony Smith admitted he had concerns over his side’s walking wounded after they headed into the play-offs with a win against Widnes in their final regular season game of the Super League.
Wolves ensured they finished one point behind League Leaders Shield winners Wigan by demolishing basement boys Widnes 52-14 with David Solomona among the try scorers.
Despite ex-Bulldogs second rower Frank Winterstein opening the scoring for the Vikings, Warrington were able to run in 10 tries during a dominant display.
Mick Higham and Chris Riley were the pick of the bunch with doubles as the Wolves finished in second, and just one point behind Wigan, with St Helens next up in the qualifying play-off.
However, Stefan Ratchford and Ben Harrison both limped off during the clash with the Vikings and Australian coach Smith faces a nervous week waiting to see who will recover in time for the play-offs.
“There are a couple of concerns with knees and ligaments but hope they won’t prove too serious,” Smith said.
“It was a scrappy game with plenty of errors. It wasn’t the prettiest but we got the job done. Both teams chanced their arm and played a bit different to normal.
“Widnes were very spirited and were prepared to die on their feet rather than live on their knees.
“We had to dig deep and were a little bit ragged but are ready to step up next week.”
Meanwhile, Wakefield head coach Richard Agar was full of praise for his side after former Cronulla centre Dean Collis helped them to a seventh straight Super League win and the final play-off spot.
The Wildcats knew before their 42-34 win over Salford City Reds that they would finish in the top eight courtesy of Catalan defeating Bradford earlier in the day.
Former New Zealand international Vinnie Anderson scored for the Reds but it was never going to be enough as Wakefield made the play-offs for the first time in three seasons.
“It’s been a good season and hopefully there is more to come,” said Agar. “Seven wins on the trot is a good run for any side.”
