Robinson hat-trick in Eels NRL trial win

A Reece Robinson hat-trick has guided Parramatta to a 30-22 NRL trial victory over Penrith, giving the club hope that there is life after Jarryd Hayne.

Recruited from Canberra in the off-season, Robinson came away with a 22-point haul on Saturday in his first match in the blue and gold.

After scoring a first-half double, he scored his hat-trick shortly after the resumption of play in the second half and kicked five goals at Pepper Stadium.

Robinson was superb on the right wing before being shifted to fullback in the second half.

Will Hopoate scored the match-sealer and looked strong at fullback after inheriting the No.1 jersey from Hayne, who is pursuing a NFL career in America.

In a low-quality game blighted by knock-ons and penalties, the Eels kicked away in the second half.

George and Rob Jennings gave Penrith coach Ivan Cleary food for thought when they both scored for the Panthers.

George played the full game and put in a strong claim to take the wing spot of Josh Mansour, who is expected back from a shoulder injury in round four, after scoring a double.

He crossed either side of halftime, showing a clean pair of heels and that he is cut from the same cloth as his brother, Sydney Roosters flyer Michael.

Rob also scored in the second half, showing great speed for a one-handed put down in the corner.

Eels second-rower Anthony Watmough had a quiet game in his first hitout for his new team after coming over from Manly in the off-season.

Penrith centre Jamal Idris also made a successful return from a back injury.

Parramatta prop Darcy Lussick had a game to forget after being put on report for a head-high tackle on Matt Moylan. before leaving the field midway through the first half with a minor hamstring injury. He is expected to be fit for round one.
