Reynolds gets dream job as Souths skipper

Adam Reynolds will captain the NRL club he grew up idolising after being named South Sydney skipper for 2020.

A Rabbitohs junior, Reynolds debuted for Souths in 2012 and has played 183 games for the club.

He put the honour on the same level as playing State of Origin for NSW.

“As a kid you always dream of it, but whether or not you believe it would happen I don’t know,” Reynolds said.

“Growing up and seeing the history of the club, there are a number of names who mean a lot to the history of this town and this team.”

Reynolds will have Damien Cook and Cody Walker as his deputies in the leadership group.

The trio will have a mammoth task of filling the leadership gulf at the club.

Greg Inglis, Sam Burgess and John Sutton all captained the team at times in 2019 and have since retired.

They all remain at the club in coaching capacities.

“They’ve moved on and it’s exciting for us to step up and take that role and move forward,” Reynolds said.

“They tend to give us advice, pretty often they are out on the training paddock with us. They tip us when they need to.”
