Raider Wighton cops one-game NRL ban

Canberra star Jack Wighton’s NRL season is over after he accepted a one-game ban for a careless high tackle on Wednesday.

Wighton was charged by the NRL Match Review Committee with a grade two careless high tackle for a hit on Jamie Soward in the first half of the Raiders’ round 25 win over Penrith on Monday.

The Raiders fullback will miss Canberra’s final game of 2015 against Parramatta on Saturday.

Wighton will be available for the Raiders opening match of next season.

Soward was hospitalised for concussion following the tackle and is unlikely to play in the Panthers’ final match of this season against Newcastle on Saturday, in what is a playoff for the wooden spoon.
