Queensland player ratings for Origin II

PLAYER RATINGS FOR THE MAROONS IN STATE OF ORIGIN II:

1. DARIUS BOYD – Threw the last passes for tries to Gagai and the match-clicher to Oates to again show why he is the best fullback in the game. 7

2. COREY OATES – Wasn’t heavily involved, but was on hand to score the series-sealing try. 6

3. GREG INGLIS – Looked angry, very angry and made the night hell for his opposite Dylan Walker. Plenty of involvement and a game-high 18 runs. 7.5

4. JUSTIN O’NEILL – A cruching tackle on Jennings forced the error for Gagai’s try but was contained in attack. 6

5. DANE GAGAI – Showed great speed, poise and finishing. His only blemish was the tap down that led to Maloney’s try. 8.5

6. JOHNATHAN THURSTON – As always led the Maroons superbly around the park in his 35th consecutive game and laid on a perfect kick for Gagai’s third try. Great all round kicking 7.5

7. COOPER CRONK – Didn’t do too much. Didn’t have to. 6

8. MATT SCOTT – Charged relentlessly forward all night like the bullock he is. 6

9. CAMERON SMITH (c) – The puppet master, controlled the ruck for the Maroons in attack and defence and kicked brilliantly. Man of the match. 9

10. JOSH MCGUIRE – Made the most of his move into the run-on side, with almost 100m before halftime and continued that after the break. 7

11. MATT GILLETT – Gordon Tallis reckons he is the best forward in the world right now and if he was on the other side the Blues probably would have won. 7.5

12. SAM THAIDAY – Wasn’t very effective with the ball but was solid in defence. 6

13. COREY PARKER – Made the most of his final game in Brisbane as a Maroon with 158m, 27 tackles and a trademark offload. 7

INTERCHANGE:

14. MICHAEL MORGAN – As usual a solid support act to Cronk and Thurston. Looked threatening with the ball at times. 6

15. JACOB LILLYMAN – Provided good support to his starting front-rowers. 6

16. AIDAN GUERRA – Wasn’t given much opportunity but held his own. 6

17. JOSH PAPALII – Provided great punch off the bench, constantly bending the Blues’ line. 7
