Queensland beat NSW in Origin opener

Queensland have drawn first blood in the 2016 State of Origin series with a torrid 6-4 win over NSW in the series opener in Sydney.

Both sides scored a try apiece with Johnathan Thurston’s 15th-minute penalty goal ultimately proving the difference in front of 80,251 mostly disappointed Blues fans at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night.

The loss leaves NSW needing to win game two in Brisbane in three weeks to avoid a 10th series defeat in 11 years.
