Qld premier takes swipe at Baird over NRL

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has taken a swipe at her NSW counterpart for moves to guarantee Sydney will continue it’s stranglehold of the NRL grand final.

News Corp reports Mr Baird is calling on the NRL to secure the competition’s showpiece event for the next 20 years, as well as keep its current quota of State of Origin matches.

But Ms Palaszczuk says she’ll make sure her state – which has never hosted the NRL decider – gets its fair share of top rugby league action.

“Let me make it very clear to Mike Baird, the N in NRL stands for National not Sydney,” Ms Palaszczuk said in Townsville on Thursday.

The North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos are in the top four on the NRL ladder and Ms Palaszczuk has reminded there could well be an all-Queensland decider next month.

“So, watch this space Mike Baird and we’re coming down there to take the NRL off you,” she said.

Mr Baird has not confirmed the rumours but says he will make an announcement soon.
