Bradford’s Australian centre Adrian Purtell has been cleared to resume his career after completing a full recovery from a heart attack.

The 28-year-old has not played since being taken ill in the aftermath of Bradford’s defeat by Leeds at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on May 27.

But he returned to training in November after being cleared of any permanent damage and was on Wednesday given the go-ahead by a London specialist to return to action.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the verdict of the specialist and I can’t wait to pull on a Bulls shirt again,” Purtell said.

“I’d like to thank all the medical staff, both at the club and at the various hospitals that I have attended, for their care and also the club for their continued support throughout the past 10 months.

“I just want to put this behind me now and concentrate on my career.”

The former Canberra and Penrith centre, who is only a year into a three-year contract with the Super League club, could now return to action as soon as Sunday, when the Bulls are at home to Hull.

Bradford coach Francis Cummins said: “It’s fantastic news for Adrian, the Bulls and the game.

“It will be like having a new player on board and I am really looking forward to seeing Adrian playing the game he loves again.”

Bulls chairman Omar Khan said: “This is incredible news, the best. I am so happy for Adrian, who has worked very hard to get to this position and I can’t wait to see him playing for the Bulls.”
