Off-contract coach Mick Potter will face the new Wests Tigers’ new board this week, in a meeting that is likely to decide his future.

Potter is under pressure to retain his position after two successive years without finals for the joint venture since he took over last season.

On another tumultuous week for the Wests Tigers, media executive Marino Go was appointed as chair of the club’s new board late on Sunday night.

The move came in the first meeting of the board of three new non-executive directors chosen by a nominations committee comprising Wests, Balmain and the NRL announced on Friday.

Those directors are Rosemary Sinclair, Lucio Di Bartolomeo and Go.

They join Tony Andreacchio and Simon Cook from Wests to make up the board.

The Balmain faction of the joint venture, who are $2 million in the red to the NRL, have no members on the new board.

It is a move that Balmain great Ben Elias said could sound the beginning of the end for the foundation club’s involvement in the NRL.

It is also a move that could spell the end of Potter’s association with the Tigers.

In a statement late on Sunday night the Tigers confirmed Potter would face the new board this week.

“As well as the appointment of Go as chair, the club’s head coaching position for 2015 was a discussion point and a clear process was put in place going forward,” the statement read.

“Current Wests Tigers Coach Mick Potter is now scheduled to meet with the board later this week”.

Potter’s assistants Todd Payten and David Kidwell have been linked to the top job at the Tigers, as has out-going Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin.
