Pick 3 Storm players in NZ team: Bellamy

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy says if he were to pick the New Zealand rugby league team, he would include three Storm players to take on Australia.

Winger Matt Duffie and forwards Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor have done enough in Melbourne’s unbeaten start to the NRL season to earn a call-up for the Test match in Auckland next Friday night.

Bromwich and Proctor were given a thorough workout by the burly Canterbury forwards in the Storm’s 12-6 win at AAMI Park but held their own.

Winger Duffie has played a Test for the Kiwis but missed the Four Nations tournament late last year due to shoulder surgery.

Proctor went on New Zealand’s tour but didn’t get a game.

“He’s been playing tremendously well for us. He was one of our best players against Townsville and I thought he was really strong for us tonight,” Bellamy said of Proctor.

“You’d like to think Jess is a real good chance as well.

“He was one of our best players out there tonight.

“Any of those players would do a really good job for the Kiwis.”

Bellamy again pushed the case for an Australian call-up for utility Ryan Hinchcliffe, who scored his side’s opening try in another industrious performance after starting at lock.

“He’s a dead-set rep player,” Bellamy said.

“He can just do so many things for your footy team.

“It doesn’t matter what level of rep footy – he’s as tough as nails and he wouldn’t let anyone down.”
