Persistence has paid off for NRL journeyman Cameron King, who has signed with Cronulla on a one-year-deal for 2020.

The 28-year-old again campaigned on social media for a NRL chance after spending 2019 with Featherstone Rovers in England’s second-tier Championship.

Injury and top-grade openings limited the luckless hooker to just 43 NRL games over nine seasons with St George Illawarra, North Queensland and Parramatta.

He was released by the Eels at the end of 2018 without another opportunity.

At the time, he took to Twitter with a cheeky advertisement seeking a new club and was picked up by the Rovers for one season.

After announcing his availability again earlier this month on Twitter, he has finally found his way back to the NRL with the Sharks and hopes to bring “a bit of experience and enthusiasm” to the side.

“I’m just grateful to be back. I wasn’t sure if my days in the NRL were done so I’ll take it all as it comes,” he told the club’s website.

King will act as a back-up No.9 for Sharks hooker Blayke Brailey, who is tipped to take over the starting role left vacant by his older brother Jayden.

Despite most of his NRL career being marred by injury, King played 28 games for the Rovers in 2019, scoring 18 tries to become a fan favourite.

He helped guide the club to the Million Pound Game against Toronto to play off for a spot in the Super League.
