Penrith retain Cartwright at pivot in NRL

Penrith have named Bryce Cartwright at five-eighth for Thursday night’s NRL round nine clash in Brisbane, but Kiwi international Te Maire Martin is still a chance to play as he recovers from a neck injury.

Cartwright keeps the No.6 jersey after filling in at pivot last week but Martin could face the Broncos after being named on an extended bench.

North Queensland co-captain Johnathan Thurston (calf) was named as 18th man for Friday night’s clash with Parramatta but fullback Lachlan Coote (calf) again missed out.

Parramatta rolled out another replacement five-eighth with Kenny Edwards slotting in for injured stand-in Brad Takairangi (knee, six weeks).

Former NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson has again been overlooked by Newcastle coach Nathan Brown for Saturday’s clash with the Gold Coast.

South Sydney welcome back No.7 Adam Reynolds (hip) for Friday night’s clash with an unchanged Manly.

Sydney Roosters, St George Illawarra, Melbourne and the Warriors will name their 21-man squads on Thursday.
