Preview:

Two teams in a similar situation here.

They both have five wins for the season, both coming off a bye last week and a loss at their most recent outings.

After winning three on the trot, including a victory over Melbourne and their opponents here (19 – 0), the momentum the Panthers had built has been slowed by two recent losses – a surprise loss to West Tigers and to Canberra away.

St. George have won one of their past four matches, that victory coming over Newcastle 14 – 8 with their most recent outing being a plain performance when, despite being firm favourites, losing to North Queensland.

Penrith will look forward to returning to home where they’ve won four of their five games this year and playing St. George who they’ve beaten three of the last four times.

In each of those wins, a total match score of 25 points or less has been produced and the last two games, a field goal kicked by Penrith.

Expecting another close encounter here with Penrith at home, getting the slight advantage.

Masoe released by Panthers

Front-rower Mose Masoe has been granted a release by Penrith to join Super League club St Helens for the next two seasons.

The giant prop, who tips the scales at 120kg, developed a cult following at Sydney Roosters in his three seasons with the tricolours before joining the Panthers for this NRL season.

Masoe was a key figure in Newtown’s historic NSW Cup title win last season but has not made the impact at the Panthers hoped of him after being lured to the foot of the mountains by club supremo Phil Gould.

He has played seven games and scored one try for the Panthers this season. His last game for the club was in the round 14 loss to Canberra.

He played 46 NRL matches for the Roosters between 2010 and 2-12.

Penrith teammate and halfback Luke Walsh will join Masoe at St Helens for the next Super League season.
