Parramatta hooker Nathan Peats has been diagnosed with a broken neck, ruling him out for the rest of the NRL season.
Peats suffered the injury early in the second half of Saturday’s 28-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters.
He played most of the final stanza with the injury, since found to be a fracture of the C6 vertebra.
He is likely to undergo surgery and is consulting with specialists.
With Peats ruled out for the final three rounds, Isaac De Gois will assume the No.9 jersey with Kaysa Pritchard (shoulder) also out.
Peats joins Anthony Watmough (knee), Brad Takairangi (foot), Danny Wicks (shoulder), Richie Fa’aoso (shoulder), Beau Champion (knee) and Kenny Edwards (knee) on the club’s long-term injured list.
In good news for the 13th placed Eels, skipper Tim Mannah (knee), Will Hopoate (hamstring), David Gower (concussion), Junior Paulo (face), Peni Terepo (concussion) have all been cleared to take on Canberra on Sunday.
