Peachey vows to honour Titans deal

Tyrone Peachey has vowed to honour his three-year contract with the Gold Coast, after having told Titans coach Garth Brennan he has nothing to stress about.

Peachey told AAP last month he wouldn’t make a decision on his future until the end of the NRL season after having just built in Penrith, despite having signed with the Titans in March.

But he has since insisted he is happy to head to the Gold Coast, having contacted Titans coach Garth Brennan last month and confirming his impending arrival.

“I spoke to him a week before I found out I was in this team,” Peachey said.

“And he was going on holidays and he said he will worry about it when he gets back. I told him not to stress.

“I don’t know why anyone is blowing up or anything like that. I signed a contract with the Gold Coast and I’m going there. I don’t know why everyone is going crazy.

“I’ve got a house there (in Penrith), I’ve been there for five years and I call it home, so it’s going to be tough to leave.

“But I’m going to the Gold Coast where the beach is and it’s a pretty good place to live I think.”

The Kangaroos reserve has a close bond with Brennan, having worked with the rookie Titans mentor previously in his time at the Panthers.

Originally contracted until the end of 2019, Peachey was told by the Panthers he could seek a longer deal elsewhere earlier this year as the club battled to keep young stars like Nathan Cleary in their salary cap.

The move will at least guarantee a starting spot for Peachey as a likely centre, after having been consigned to the bench when Penrith have been at full strength in recent years.

“They’ve got a great team. Ash Taylor is up there and he had a really good year,” Peachey said.

“They just bought Shannon Boyd and they’ve got a few Origin players up there in (Jai) Arrow and (Jarrod) Wallace and all that as well. I was in (NSW) camp with Ryan James and I got along good with him.

“They’ve got a good little team and hopefully they can do something special next year.”
