Peachey considering reneging on Titans

Tyrone Peachey is still considering backflipping on his contract with the Gold Coast and will wait until the end of the NRL season before making a call.

Peachey signed a three-year deal with the Titans in March, but the NSW State of Origin utility now reconsidering the move for personal reasons.

He is unsure if he will be able to remain at Penrith, and would need to be granted a release by the Titans to not front for pre-season training in November.

“We just built a house out here and my missus is pretty comfortable and got everything there,” Peachey told AAP.

“Just with the decision … I just said (to my manager) I don’t want to make any decision or do anything until the year is finished.

“I just want to concentrate on Penrith and do as good as I can for the club.”

Peachey said Cameron Ciraldo taking over as coach from axed predecessor Anthony Griffin would not influence his decision.

Penrith gave permission to Peachey to leave the club earlier in the year, as they battled to manage their salary cap.

It’s unlikely Penrith would be able to fit him into their cap for next season, given they’ve already budgeted for his departure and he is not a starting player at the club if they are at full fitness.

“I’m not too sure (if I can stay). I’ve got no idea what’s happening,” Peachey said.

“I spoke to my manager and I told him I don’t want to worry about anything until after the year I can’t really tell you much there.

“It might be my last year so I just want to finish on a good note.”

Titans coach Garth Brennan dismissed concerns over Peachey’s contract when reports first broke last month, declaring him “an honourable man”.

The Titans would also be frustrated over Peachey’s revelation, considering they have put aside the money in their cap for him when considering other 2019 options this year.

Meanwhile, Peachey said he wanted to move full-time to five-eighth if he did head to the Titans next year.

“I’m happy in the centres at the moment but if I was to go to the Goldy I would really like to pursue that No.6 jersey,” he said.

“Ash Taylor (halfback) is a good kicker, he runs the game well. I could just play as a runner.”
