Preview:

Paramatta Eels vs Gold Coast Titans in the first Sunday match of the round, kikcing off at 12.45PM at Mudgee Stadium. Both teams are coming of good wins last round, making this one a little tricky to predict. The Eels beat the Dragons 34-20 last week, with a great performance in the forwards and a more confident team overall. They will have to battle with an equally confident Titans outfit however, who are coming off a 34-18 win against the Broncos. If Matt Beddow can play like he did last week, the Gold Coast could have another win.

Teams:

Parramatta Eels:
Jarryd Hayne (capt), Ken Sio, Api Pewhairangi, Jacob Loko, Vai Toutai, Luke Kelly, Chris Sandow, Tim Mannah, Matt Keating, Fuifui Moimoi, Reni Maitua (capt), Matt Ryan, Peni Terepo. Interchange: Kaysa Pritchard, Junior Paulo, Joseph Paulo, Mitch Allgood, Brayden Wiliame

Gold Coast Titans:
William Zillman, Kevin Gordon, Brad Takairangi, Jamal Idris, Anthony Don, Aidan Sezer, Albert Kelly, Luke Bailey, Matt Srama, Nate Myles, Greg Bird, Mark Minichiello, Ashley Harrison. Interchange: Luke Douglas, Mark Ioane, Ryan James, Sam Irwin, Luke O’Dwyer

Eels look for NRL payback against Titans

Parramatta reckon they owe the Gold Coast a bit of heartache, after the Titans stole the competition points the last time the two teams met.

In round six, the Titans roared home from being down 16-8 at halftime to win a somewhat controversial clash which left the Eels shattered at the result.

That match was played in front of the Titans’ home crowd at Skilled Park – but instead of Parramatta Stadium hosting the return fixture, it has been moved to country town Mudgee.

Despite the change in venue, halfback Chris Sandow has told his teammates to use that pain and make this Sunday’s clash personal.

“I think we owe them one from the last game,” Sandow said.

“We’ve just got to take it a bit personally this weekend.”

In the fallout from their last clash, coach Ricky Stuart was fined $10,000 from the NRL for an expletive-laden tirade directed at the refereeing on the night.

It is still a sore point among Stuart’s playing group.

“Obviously we were in a position to win that game…It’s definitely a game we should’ve won regardless of the penalty count,” co-captain Reni Maitua said.

“It didn’t make it any easier when we had back-to-back penalties in that game and subsequently they were able to put points on us.

“It definitely was a game we should’ve won and we’ve got a chance this week to get one back on them.”

When asked what coach Stuart’s message has been for the players this week, Sandow said: “Be more aggressive”.

Sandow said the playing group had been left devastated by the Titans loss, and since then had worked hard to close out games.

“It was a bit devastating. We had it in the bag,” he said.

“I think we just let ourselves down in that area.

“Hopefully we can come out strong on Sunday and work really hard this week to get into that game.”

Hayne said the fresh memory of being chased down will serve them well if the match is close.

“We’re definitely wary of that and need to be focused for the full 80,” he said.

The Titans enter the clash with injury doubts over second-rowers Ashley Harrison (knee) and Dave Taylor (calf).
