Origin forward Welch re-signs with Storm

Melbourne forward Christian Welch will stay at the NRL powerhouse until the end of the 2022 season after re-signing with the Storm.

The Queensland State of Origin forward has made 94 appearances for the Storm since debuting in 2015 and was a member of the 2016 and 2018 grand final teams.

He debuted for the Maroons in last year’s final Origin game and is a certainty to feature in this year’s campaign under new coach Wayne Bennett.

“Christian is having an outstanding 2020 to back up earning his first jersey for the Maroons last year,” Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said.

“What we like a lot about Christian is the leadership skills that he possesses on and off the field and the dedication he puts into improving his game.

“He’s entering the prime of his career as an NRL front-rower and we’re delighted to have him at our club through to the end of 2022.”

As well as re-signing the 26-year-old frontrower, the Storm have locked down the future of Max King and schoolboys talent Jack Howarth, who is set to be promoted to the club’s first-grade squad in 2021.
