O’Donnell cops three-week NRL ban

Fiery prop Luke O’Donnell will miss the rest of Sydney Roosters’ NRL minor premiership push after copping a three-match ban for a dangerous throw.

O’Donnell on Wednesday entered an early guilty plea to his grade three dangerous throw charge after upending Wests Tigers winger Tim Simona in a tackle during the Roosters’ big win at Allianz Stadium on Monday night.

The three-week ban lifts O’Donnell into the top five of the NRL’s most suspended players, the former Test forward having been banned for a total of 29 matches in his first grade career.

He is a long way off former Manly and Wests Tigers winger John Hopoate, who was banned for a total of 45 during his controversial career.

O’Donnell risked a five-game ban had he unsuccessfully challenged the charge, which could have potentially ruled him out until the third week of the finals series.
