NSW’s Morris unfazed by Inglis assignment

NSW’s Josh Morris says the experience of playing against Greg Inglis in last year’s State of Origin series will stand him in good stead for game one next week.

Morris will start at right centre, the opposite side to where he plays for Canterbury, and will mark up against the in-form Inglis who is the early favourite for the Dally M Medal after a stunning start to the season with high-flying South Sydney.

Inglis has been playing fullback for the Rabbitohs but Morris expects his Test teammate to seamlessly slot back into the position he occupies for the Maroons and Australia.

“He’s been great this year for Souths, and showed just why he is one of the best players in the world,” Morris told AAP.

“I played against him last year and was happy with how I went. But he is someone you never feel you are ever on top of.

“He is one of those players who can do something out of nothing so you can never turn off.”

Morris scored one of the great Origin tries in Brisbane last year in the deciding game at Suncorp Stadium.

The 26-year-old acrobatically hauled in a Todd Carney bomb in what looked to be a potential game breaker for the Blues, only for Cooper Cronk to kick a winning field goal late on and seal a 21-20 win.

Morris said that defeat was hard to take but all of those players who were involved are this year taking a lot of confidence from how they performed.

“We were the closest we have been to winning a series for a long time,” he said.

“We lost. But we all know we are not far away and the difference between the sides is very small.

“Hopefully we can go one better this year.”
