Punters have reacted to news that Johnathan Thurston is suffering from a virus by backing New South Wales into equal favouritism with Queensland for game 1 of the 2013 State Of Origin series at ANZ stadium on Wednesday night.
The Blues have been backed from $1.95 into $1.91 with Sportingbet Australia, while Queensland’s odds have drifted from $1.87 out to $1.91.
“The money is just starting to tip in New South Wales’ favour and should it continue like this the Blues will start game one as favourites,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“Queensland could be 2 point underdogs come Wednesday which is remarkable when you consider they’ve won 7 straight series,” Sullivan said.
“The Maroons are still the popular pick to win the series though and they’ve been backed from $1.80 into $1.70 to make it eight straight,” Sullivan said.
New South Wales are $2.10 outsiders with Sportingbet to win the series.
Paul Gallen has been backed from $7 into $5 for the most run metres of the series and is now equal favourite with Jarryd Hayne and Billy Slater.
