NRL team-by-team Origin period analysis

HOW THE ORIGIN PERIOD WILL AFFECT YOUR SIDE:

BRISBANE: Wests Tigers (a), ORIGIN I, Warriors (a), Canberra (h), Bye, ORIGIN II, Canterbury (a), Melbourne (h), Bye, ORIGIN III, South Sydney (a).

A trip across the Tasman followed by a five-day turnaround into the home fixture against Canberra could see Wayne Bennett rest some players.

CANBERRA: Canterbury (h), ORIGIN I, Manly (h), Brisbane (a), Bye, ORIGIN II, Gold Coast (a), Newcastle (h), North Queensland (h), ORIGIN III, Bye.

Face the Bulldogs without two key forwards and Will Hopoate, Brisbane on the back of a five-day turnaround and the Cowboys without Johnathan Thurston and their four other Origin stars.

CANTERBURY: Canberra (a), ORIGIN I, Cronulla (h), St George Illawarra (a), Bye, ORIGIN II, Brisbane (h), Sydney Roosters (a), Wests Tigers (h), ORIGIN III, Bye.

While they don’t gain or give away much more than their opposition in the pre-Origin rounds, facing an ageing Brisbane pack three days after Origin II in Sydney could be handy.

CRONULLA: Bye, ORIGIN I, Canterbury (a), North Queensland (h), Bye, ORIGIN II, Warriors (h), Parramatta (h), Penrith (a), ORIGIN III, Sydney Roosters (a).

How their three stars rebound out of Origin I could prove pivotal, given upcoming clashes against Canterbury and North Queensland could help shape their season.

GOLD COAST: Bye, ORIGIN I, South Sydney (a), Parramatta (a), Manly (h), ORIGIN II, Gold Coast (h), Warriors (a), Bye, ORIGIN III, St George Illawarra (a).

Given they only lose Greg Bird, the Titans would probably be one of the few clubs happy to play before Origin fixtures. Instead their only such clash is against Manly, who will likely be without Dylan Walker and Nate Myles.

MANLY: Bye, ORIGIN I, Canberra (a), Penrith (h), Gold Coast (a) ORIGIN II, North Queensland (a) St George Illawarra (h), Bye, ORIGIN III, Warriors (h).

With the exception of North Queensland in the post-Origin week of round 16, they barely play a team heavily affected by the rep period.

MELBOURNE: Bye, ORIGIN I, Penrith (h), Sydney Roosters (a), Dragons (a), ORIGIN II, Wests Tigers (h), Brisbane (a), Bye, ORIGIN III, Newcastle (h).

Injuries mean Melbourne will only lose two players to Origin this year. St George Illawarra – even without Josh Dugan – before Origin II will firm as their toughest task.

NORTH QUEENSLAND: St George Illawarra (a), ORIGIN I, Newcastle (h), Cronulla (a), Bye, ORIGIN II, Manly (h), South Sydney (a), Canberra (a) ORIGIN III, Bye.

Could desperately have done with their round-19 bye to be before an Origin clash, but instead a Cowboys side without their two halves and starting props will have their work cut out for them against the Dragons and Raiders.

PARRAMATTA: Newcastle (a), ORIGIN I, Bye, Gold Coast (h), South Sydney (a), ORIGIN II, Bye, Cronulla (a), Sydney Roosters (h), ORIGIN III, Penrith (a).

The only team not to have a bye before an Origin match and it might just work in their favour as they look to put on a run. Newcastle and the Gold Coast precede a clash against a South Sydney side missing Adam Reynolds and Greg Inglis.

PENRITH: Bye , ORIGIN I, Melbourne (a), Manly (a), Bye, ORIGIN II, South Sydney (h), Wests Tigers (a), Cronulla (h), ORIGIN III, Parramatta (h).

Get Melbourne after the first Origin and host Cronulla without their representative stars in round 18.

SOUTH SYDNEY: Bye, ORIGIN I, Gold Coast (h), Wests Tigers (a), Parramatta (h), ORIGIN II, Penrith (a), North Queensland (h), Bye, ORIGIN III, Brisbane (h).

Only lose Adam Reynolds and Greg Inglis for one match, but the bounce-back affect could prove tough on their star fullback-turned-five-eighth who has battled fitness concerns this year.

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA: North Queensland (h), ORIGIN I, Bye, Canterbury (h), Melbourne (h), ORIGIN II, Newcastle (a), Manly (a), Bye, ORIGIN III, Gold Coast (h)

The biggest winners of the Origin period. Get North Queensland and Melbourne without the most influential players in the game, and while they might miss Josh Dugan, four vital points are there for taking for the mid-table team.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS: Bye, ORIGIN I, Wests Tigers (h), Melbourne (a), Warriors (a), ORIGIN II, Bye, Canterbury (h), Parramatta (a), ORIGIN III, Cronulla (h).

Need to make their run through a relatively soft period of the competition where they only lose an outside back and second-rower for their Warriors and Parramatta clashes.

WARRIORS: Bye, ORIGIN I, Brisbane (h), Newcastle (a), Sydney Roosters (h), ORIGIN II, Cronulla (a), Gold Coast (h), Bye, ORIGIN III, Manly (a).

Completely unaffected by Origin selection, the Warriors will consider it a shame to have two byes before Origin matches. Get Brisbane in New Zealand just three days after the first Origin though.

WESTS TIGERS: Brisbane (a), ORIGIN I, Sydney Roosters (a), South Sydney (h), Bye, ORIGIN II, Melbourne (a), Penrith (h), Canterbury (a), ORIGIN III, Bye.

The loss of Aaron Woods and Robbie Farah could completely negate any advantage they had in playing the Baby Broncos and a Canterbury side missing David Klemmer and Josh Jackson.
