Parramatta will be able to play for NRL competition points while five of the club’s directors are taking legal action against the game’s governing body.

The exit of the “Gang of Five” – chairman Steve Sharp, CEO John Boulous, deputy chairman Tom Issa, head of football Daniel Anderson and director Peter Serrao – from the club was to be a condition of the Eels being able to play for points in sanctions handed out by the NRL on Tuesday for rorting of the salary cap.

However when the matter appeared in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday it appeared the NRL will soften that stance and the club will be able to play for points against South Sydney on Friday week provided they can squeeze under the cap.

A date is yet to be set for the hearing between the directors the NRL want to deregister and the game’s governing body is yet to be set.
