NRL investigators arrive at Manly

The NRL has ramped up its investigation into alleged salary-cap breaches at Manly, with league officials visiting the club on Wednesday.

A NRL spokesman has confirmed to AAP investigations have begun at the club’s Narrabeen base, after Sea Eagles officials had requested the league complete the matter quickly.

It’s also understood at least two club officials have been offered immunity over any possible breaches if they come forward with information.

The news comes after Fairfax Media reports a fortnight ago which had placed Manly front and centre of allegations of illegal top-up payments as several other unnamed clubs.

The allegations included suggestions that one former Sea Eagles player had been connected with a sum of money being handed over in a car park.

However, the Sea Eagles have been quick to defend their salary-cap record, and have previously denied any wrongdoing.

“The club prides itself on strong governance and the highest level of integrity and compliance regarding the salary cap,” the club said in a statement.

“The club has zero tolerance for inappropriate behaviour and, if any charges or substantive claims are made, we will tackle them head on and cooperate fully with the authorities as we have always done.”
