Laurie Daley’s indigenous All Stars players staged an unusual weights session in front of amused early-morning workers after their team bus got stuck in a gutter leaving their inner-city hotel on Friday morning.

The players filed off the luxury coach after its rear tyre became stuck in the kerb in busy Turbot street.

After rocking the bus the players, labelled soft by injured NRL All Stars forward Paul Gallen during the week, resorted to muscle power to free the 58-seat vehicle.

“It was quite funny actually. We got stuck and stopped the traffic,” laughed Daley.

“The boys jumped off the bus and finally pushed it off the gutter.

“They finally got it going to the cheers of everyone sitting in their cars and the crowd that had gathered.

“People had their phones out and the crowd cheered as the bus took off.”

“I’m hoping we go better than that tomorrow night.”

Daley joked the incident had resulted in him cancelling a planned weights session.

On a more serious note he said the key to winning the fourth All Stars clash could be as simple as hanging onto the ball, with fatigue a big issue so early in the season.

“I think that’s what happened to us towards the end of last year’s game when we fatigued from defending so much.

“We need to make sure we focus on holding onto the ball and the cliched stuff like completing our sets.

“If we do that it will give JT (Johnathan Thurston) and GI (Greg Inglis) and Benny Barba and Hodgo (Justin Hodges) and those type of blokes the space and opportunity to showcase their skills.”
