No shine off 300-game milestone: Smith

Melbourne Storm skipper Cameron Smith says the Alex McKinnon controversy hasn’t taken the gloss off his record-breaking 300-NRL game milestone.

Smith, 32, will become the first Storm player and the 24th NRL player to reach the mark when Melbourne host Penrith at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Smith refused to answer questions about his plans to talk to McKinnon, who in a recent television incident slammed Smith for his on-field comments following the tackle that left him a quadriplegic last year.

“I said after the game last week that this whole process will be dealt with privately and that’s the way I’m going to keep it,” Smith said.

Asked if it had detracted from his milestone game, Smith said he didn’t believe so.
