No judiciary worries for Wighton: Raiders

Coach Ricky Stuart is confident star Canberra fullback Jack Wighton won’t be cited by the NRL over a shoulder charge, after Michael Ennis escaped charge for a similar offence.

Wighton was placed on report for a shoulder charge on Wests Tigers forward Joel Edwards in the Raiders 52-10 win at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

He faces being rubbed out of the Raiders qualifying final against Cronulla on Saturday if cited by the match review committee.

Sharks rake Michael Ennis is free to play in the GIO Stadium encounter after being cleared of a shoulder charge on Melbourne pivot Blake Green in the Storm’s win on Saturday night.

Stuart said he wasn’t concerned about Wighton given the verdict on Ennis.

“I’m not worried after I heard Michael Ennis got off,” Stuart said.

“But I’m glad Michael Ennis got off, because I don’t think there has been enough of a common sense approach in these collisions.

“Jack said he hit Edwards with his head, so I am not concerned.”

Raiders captain Jarrod Croker added: “It was a head clash, Jack had his hands up. I am sure he will be fine.”

There were no charges laid against any player by the match review committee from Saturday’s final round games.
