Newcastle Knights vs Wests Tigers Preview
Another double-up fixture as Newcastle and Wests Tigers lock horns at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights fought back to claim a Kalyn Ponga-inspired 10-8 win at Campbelltown in Round 1, their seventh straight victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers have lost their last three in Newcastle by 16-plus margins.
But the Knights are now 2-2, crashing to away losses to the Titans (26-6) and Bulldogs (20-0) either side of the Round 4 bye.
A team boasting Ponga, Bradman Best, and Fletcher Sharpe is scoring the least points per game in the NRL.
The 2-3 Tigers are also coming off consecutive losses, letting one slip at home against the Warriors (26-24) and getting overrun by the Broncos (46-24) with some key players out.
While their defensive improvement has taken a hit in the past fortnight, their upswing at the attacking end has been a positive – scoring five tries per game on average since their one-try showing against the Knights.
The Tigers welcome Jarome Luai back from suspension, as well as injured duo Jeral Skelton and Samuela Fainu.
Latu Fainu (thumb) is out injured, while Tony Sukkar and Luke Laulilii make way.
The Knights are 9-4 at home since the start of last season, including a 26-12 win over the Dolphins in their only match there this season.
But this looms as another barnburner between the teams that will swing on the brilliance of a Ponga or Luai.
Head To Head Bet
We're tipping Newcastle Knights to win at $1.52 odds.
