In Round 1, the Knights secured a 10-8 victory at Campbelltown, thanks to a stellar performance by Kalyn Ponga, marking their seventh consecutive win over the Tigers. Meanwhile, Wests Tigers have struggled in Newcastle, losing their last three games at the venue by margins of 16 points or more.

Newcastle’s season, however, has been a mixed bag. With a 2-2 record, they’ve suffered disappointing away losses to the Titans (26-6) and Bulldogs (20-0) around their Round 4 bye. Despite having stars like Ponga, Bradman Best, and Fletcher Sharpe, they are currently the lowest-scoring team in the NRL.

The 2-3 Tigers are also coming off back-to-back defeats, narrowly falling to the Warriors (26-24) at home and being overwhelmed by the Broncos (46-24), with key players sidelined. While their defensive form has taken a hit recently, their attack has shown signs of life, averaging five tries per game since their one-try outing against the Knights.

The Tigers will welcome back Jarome Luai from suspension, alongside injured players Jeral Skelton and Samuela Fainu. However, Latu Fainu (thumb) remains out, while Tony Sukkar and Luke Laulilii drop out.

At home, the Knights have a solid 9-4 record since last season, including a 26-12 win over the Dolphins in their only match there this year. This game promises to be another thrilling encounter, with the result likely hinging on the brilliance of Ponga or Luai.
