Morris set to miss rest of Origin series

Josh Morris is likely to miss the rest of the State of Origin series after Canterbury confirmed the NSW centre will be sidelined for up to eight weeks due to a knee injury suffered in Wednesday’s interstate opener.

Morris suffered the injury in the second half of the Blues’ epic 12-8 win in Brisbane but will miss the return match in Sydney on June 18 and is unlikely to take the field for Game III on July 9.

The Bulldogs confirmed on Friday their star back will be out for 6-8 weeks due to a posterior cruciate ligament injury.

NSW back-rower Anthony Watmough is also in grave doubt for the second Origin match with an arm injury.

Blues skipper Paul Gallen is a touch-and-go proposition due to a neck injury, while St George Illawarra star Brett Morris is confident he will take the field at ANZ Stadium as NSW seek to break Queensland’s eight-year stranglehold over Origin.

Brett Morris suffered a partially dislocated shoulder while scoring a first-half try on Wednesday but says he should be right to play.
