Morgan pens Cowboys contract extension

Fullback Michael Morgan has pledged his future to home-town club the North Queensland Cowboys, penning a three-year contract extension.

The 23-year-old was one of the hottest young properties on the market following a breakout 2014 campaign, in which he scored 10 tries.

But on the back of Jason Taumalolo’s re-signing, Morgan has opted to stay put and help build towards a maiden Cowboys NRL premiership under coach Paul Green.

“I’m really excited and happy with my decision,” Morgan said.

“There’s a good group of boys that we got here for another couple of years.

“There’s been a lot of loyalty shown by the boys at the moment so I wasn’t looking to leave.

“I’m happy here and `Greeny’ is keen for me to stay around, which is good to know.”

Morgan made his first-grade debut against the Sydney Roosters in 2010 and has played 58 games for North Queensland.

Last year, Morgan was rewarded with selection in the Kangaroos’ Four Nations train-on-squad and the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII as well as being voted Cowboys player of the year.

“It’s important that we keep young players like Michael at the Cowboys, Cowboys general manager of football Peter Parr said.

“He is a dynamic player and we are excited to see Michael develop into a great footballer at the Cowboys.”
