Joel Monaghan made it six Super League tries in three games for Warrington Wolves with another double on Sunday to down Wakefield Wildcats 41-34.
Monaghan, who won the Mal Meninga Medal while at Canberra in the NRL in 2008, took his season’s tally to 13 while Wolves fullback Brett Hodgson finished the game with 12 points.
Wigan Warriors remain top of the table after their 36-6 rout of Bradford Bulls.
Liam Farrell also grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors who remain a point clear of second-placed Huddersfield Giants after their 50-30 victory over Hull KR.
The Giants had Craig Kopczak, Michael Lawrence, Scott Grix and Brett Ferres on the scoresheet, while Shaun Lunt and Joe Wardle each crossed twice, and have won nine of their opening 12 games.
The Robins never really managed to get going but halfback Michael Dobson, Canberra’s leading points scorer in 2007, finished with 10 points and Constantine Mika grabbed a late consolation try.
A new era began for Salford City Reds on Saturday but, despite Brian Noble being confirmed as new head coach before kick-off against Hull FC, they still fell to a 24-18 defeat.
Noble watched on as the Reds threw away an early advantage – Ben Crooks, Richard Whiting and Tom Lineham, twice, going over for the visitors.
Noble, who will officially begin his new role next week, takes over a side lying bottom of the table and with only two wins from 12 games.
Another man starting a new chapter was Danny Orr at Castleford Tigers, and the interim coach made a winning start against Widnes Vikings, triumphing 28-26.
Patrick Ah Van could have snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat for the Vikings, but the former Warrior missed a last-minute penalty attempt.
On Friday, Joel Moon grabbed two tries to ease reigning champions Leeds Rhinos past strugglers London Broncos 30-6.
Also on Friday, Ian Henderson put the gloss on Catalan Dragons’ 22-12 victory over St Helens.
The former Scotland international crossed late for the French side, who were in command for most of the match.
Sia Soliola offered hope for the Saints with a try just after halftime, but Nathan Brown’s troops left too much to do and remain languishing in mid-table.
