Matulino named Warriors’ player of year

Prop Ben Matulino has been named the Warriors’ player of the year for the second time.

Matulino joins Steve Price (2006 and 2007) and Simon Mannering (2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014) as the only multiple winners of the award at the NRL club.

The 27-year-old beat fellow finalists Mannering and Shaun Johnson, who missed the last six games of the season through injury, to add to his success in 2012.

Matulino played 21 matches during 2015 – the three he missed were because of suspension – and took his tally of appearances over his eight NRL seasons to 173.

Despite the suspension, he was still the Warrior with the most runs (349 for an average of 16.6 a game) and most metres gained (3245 for 154.5 a game).

He was also the club’s most prolific off-loader with 53, ranking him second among all players in the NRL.

Utility Tuimoala Lolohea, 20, was named the club’s rookie of the year.
