Manly centre Steve Matai has escaped being charged after brushing the shoulder of referee Brett Suttor in Friday night’s NRL win over Canterbury.
Matai came in contact with Suttor as he made his way downfield just moments after the Sea Eagles had been marched 10 metres for dissent by the Kiwi international.
But NRL match review committee chairman Greg McCullum said the incident did not warrant any further action.
“It was a minor brush and, after looking at extra angles, we were happy with the outcome of that,” McCullum said.
“There was nothing of any concern.”
Given his long rap sheet, Matai could have been left facing a lengthy suspension had he been found to have a case to answer.
There were no charges laid by the match review committee following the weekend’s games.
