Masoe released by Panthers

Front-rower Mose Masoe has been granted a release by Penrith to join Super League club St Helens for the next two seasons.

The giant prop, who tips the scales at 120kg, developed a cult following at Sydney Roosters in his three seasons with the tricolours before joining the Panthers for this NRL season.

Masoe was a key figure in Newtown’s historic NSW Cup title win last season but has not made the impact at the Panthers hoped of him after being lured to the foot of the mountains by club supremo Phil Gould.

He has played seven games and scored one try for the Panthers this season. His last game for the club was in the round 14 loss to Canberra.

He played 46 NRL matches for the Roosters between 2010 and 2-12.

Penrith teammate and halfback Luke Walsh will join Masoe at St Helens for the next Super League season.
