Maroons duo escape judiciary charges

Cooper Cronk and David Shillington will be clear to face NSW in the State of Origin opener for Queensland after escaping sanction from the NRL match review committee.

Cronk was placed on report for a lifting tackle on Sydney Roosters winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in Melbourne’s 26-18 win at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

Shillington was penalised for a high shot on Manly’s Steve Matai in Canberra’s loss at Brookvale on the same night.

Both players have been cleared by the review committee and will be selected to play for the Maroons on Monday night for the series opener on June 5.

Roosters back-rower Aidan Guerra was hit with a grade-one dangerous contact charge for a challenge on Melbourne’s Jason Ryles, but won’t miss a game with an early guilty plea.

Warriors prop Sam Rapira was charged with a grade-one tripping charge involving Newcastle’s Kade Snowden but won’t miss any action.
